MERIDIAN PATHWAYS

In Spinal Reflexology we are principally concerned with the twelve 'Ordinary' meridians and their associated Back Transporting Points adjacent to the spine.  Knowing the pathways of the meridians is important as often the location of somatic symptoms can often give clues as to which meridian(s) are involved in the pathology shown by the patient.

LARGE INTESTINE (Yang meridian of the Metal Element) - LI

This meridian starts on the radial side of the index finger and finishes adjacent to the nose

LUNG (Yin meridian of the Metal Element) - Lu

This meridian starts on the upper chest adjacent to the second rib and finishes on the lateral nail corner of the thumb

BLADDER (Yang meridian of the Water Element) - B

This meridian starts in a depression 0.1 cun superior to the inner canthus of the eye, passes over the head, over the posterior aspect of the body and finishes adjacent to the lateral corner of the nail of the fifth toe

KIDNEY (Yin meridian of the Water Element) - K

This meridian starts on the sole of the foot, in a depression when the foot is in plantar flexion at the junction of the anterior 1/3 and posterior 2/3 of line connecting base of 2nd and 3rd toes and the heel; the meridian finishes in the depression on lower border of clavicle, 2 cun lateral to the midline.

GALL BLADDER (Yang meridian of the Wood Element) - GB

This meridian starts adjacent to the outer canthus of the eye and finishes adjacent to the corner of the nail on the lateral side of the fourth toe

LIVER (Yin meridian of the Wood Element) - Lv

This meridian starts on the lateral side of the great toe, 0.1 cun from the corner of the nail and finishes directly below the nipple, 4 cun lateral to the midline in the 6th intercostal groove

SMALL INTESTINE (Yang meridian of the Fire Element) - SI

This meridian starts 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail on the ulnar side of the little finger and finishes anterior to the tragus and posterior to the condyloid process of the mandible in a depression formed when mouth is opened

HEART (Yin meridian of the Fire Element) - H

This meridian starts in the centre of the axilla on the medial side of the axillary artery and finishes 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail on the radial side of the little finger

SANJIAO (Yang meridian of the Fire Element) - SJ

This meridian starts 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail on the ulnar side of the fourth finger and finishes in the depression at the lateral end of the eyebrow

PERICARDIUM (Yin meridian of the Fire Element) - P

This meridian starts 5 cun lateral to the anterior midline or 1 cun lateral to the nipple in the fourth intercostal space       and finishes In the center of the tip of the middle finger

STOMACH (Yang meridian of the Earth Element) - St

This meridian starts directly below the pupil between the eyeball and the infraorbital ridge and finishes 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of nail on the lateral side of the 2nd toe

SPLEEN (Yin meridian of the Earth Element) - Sp

This meridian starts 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail, on the medial side of the first toe and finishes On the mid-axillary line, 6 cun inferior to the anterior axillary crease (also midway between the axilla and the free end of the eleventh rib).
